GERALDINE COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Geraldine County . Council held a special meeting on Wednesday. Present—Messrs Balfour (chairman), Maekay, Moore, Barker, and Howell. The object of the meeting was to consider the resolutions passed by; the conference of County Chairman, and the drafF Bill for regulating water supply and irrigation. Applications from T. Conolly and P. : Brosnahan for water supplies were granted. ; ; The council then; reviewed the resolutions of the Conference and discussed the Waterworks Bill, The clauses of the Bill deal with (1) acquiring of land for water races; (2) construction, extension and maintenance of water, races ; (3) the constitution of .water race districts; (4) the raising of special leans for water supply, by-laws and penalties. The various clauses were approved of and adopted, and the chairman and clerk were empowered to take the necessary steps as to advertising, etc. A letter was received from Mr E. Acton, drawing attention to a dangerous hole in the TeUgawai bridge, and ! said “If it is correct that your council Has deputed the care of this bridge to Mr Howell you have handed it oyUr to the care of its avowed enemy, who would be glad to see it fall into ruin in order that he may urge the building of a new bridge in his own road, I write with the knowledge that Mr Howell will ! see this, and I am quite prepared to maintain its correctness.” Mr Howell said he had never contemplated the building of a new bridge on his side of the river. The present bridge should be taken to pieces and a stock bridge made of it. It was decided to ask the Levels Road Board to. make the necessary small repairs.
