London, May 24. The employes of the Gaslight and Coke Company have struck against the introduction of labour-saving machinery. Brussels, May 24. . As a majority of the English delegates at the Miners’ Conference dissented from the proposed general strike of colliers on Ist June, an amendment was ultimately carried to refer the question to a plebiscite. One of the tailoring establishments in Wellington, declined to accept the new log, and notice has been given to a number of their female employes, as it is stated it is intended to employ men in their place. The Canterbury Trades and Labour Council on Saturday resolved to send a ..circular to Hoad Boards, etc., requesting them to consider when accepting tenders, whether the amount will allow a fair wage to workmen, also bo insist on deposits from tenderers.
