Qua Volunteers. —The Dcfenee Department have issued a circular in connection with the recent Ess'er encampments in which certain matters requiring to be remedied are set out. The unsatisfactory attendance of some corps is referred I©, und officers are nquested to explain the cause. Want of proficiency by certain officers and non-eouimissioned officers in squad drill and guard and sentry duties is •ommented upoD, and a request made that attention be paid in future. The salute of officers when marching past, and the manner in which swords are carried are unfavorably referred to, also the absence of recognition of officers when in uniform by volunteers in the camp.
