AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. GERALDINE, Messrs J. Mundell and Co. report sales for the week ended May 10th, 1890, as follows : At the Geraldine Live Stock Market on "Wednesday there was a moderate entry of cattle and sheep, which met with really good competition, every lot being sold at prices considerably in advance of those lately ruling. The numbers yarded were 7465 sheep, 41 head of cattle, 32 pigs. Our quotations for the day are :—• Sheep Crossbred wethers and maiden ewes, two-and-four tooth, fat, 16s, 14s 7d, to 14a 6d; crossbred

wethers arid maiden ewes, stores, 12s 3d, 12s, to 10s; lambs, threequarter bred, a good line, 10s, 9s 6d, to 7s 8d ; crossbred ewes, sound, 9s sd, 8s 6d to Bs,- culls, ss, 4s 6d, to 4s ; merino wethers and ewes, two-tootb, 5s sd, to 5a 4d; cull merinos, Is 8d to Is 6d. Cattle Three-year-old steers, £3 2s 6d, to £3 ; fat caws, £3 ; yearlings, no sale to quote. Pigs—Porkers, £1 3s 6d, to £l; stores, 10s, 9s 6d, to 9s. ’ In conjunction with the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, we submitted to auction on account of J. M. GreenEsq., his valuable freehold property, and succeeded m selling the whole estate with exception ©f two allotments,, and for. these we are at present in treaty. Prices realised for the lots sold were:—Lot 5, 109 acres, to Mr James Austin, at £lB per acre; lot 2,234 J acres to Mr P. H, MeShane, at £l6 15s per acre; lot 3, 31 acres, , to Mr William Payne, at £l6 per acre; lot 6, 20 acres ; bush section in Peel Forest, to ’C. G. Tripp Egq., at £4 10s per acre ; every lot being eagerly competed for. timabti. Mr Moss Jonas reports as follows:—

Pleasant Point—At the above yards there was a very large entry of sheep, cattle, and pigs; his being-2278 sheep, 72 head of cattle, and 75 pigs. lie suceeded in selling the whole of the sheep, 64 head of cattle, and 15 pigs. There were : not many purchasers for the latter class of stock, although it is only a matter of a short time for pigs to realise their full values. 246 half and three-quarter-bred ewes at 2s lid ; 681 2-tooths from 10s 6d to 13s, 80 half-bred ewes at 7s sd, 50 culls, 2-tooth wethers, at 7s, 47 lambs at 9s lid, 500 crossbred ewes at 6s 6d, 625 half and three-quarter-bred do at 4s, 219 at 4s 6d, 25 merinos at 2s, 5 rams at 30s. Cattle—6 steers and heifers at £4 2s 6d, 2 heifers at £3, 24 yearlings at 19s, 18 steers aod heifers at 28s, and others from 12s 6d up to £2 ss. Pigs—From 8s up to 265.

Washdyke Tarda—There have not been any very large entries lately, but whatever sheep come r forward they seem to find a ready market, and values are obtained as well in these yards as in any other in the district. He sold 80 fat ewes at 8s 6d, 184 half-, bred at 6s, 66 fat sheep at lls, 3 rams at £1 ss, and 1 cow at £5, Sheepskins, Hides, and Pelts During the last two sales by public auction, and privately he has sold 4620 butchers’ country and freezing skins—crossbreds at 2s Id to 8s 6d; halfbreds, 2s to 2s lOd ; hoggets, lsßd to 2s 8d ; pelts, Id to Is 5d ; merinos, Is 8d to 4s Id ; freezers, 3s 9d to 4s ; 64 hides, Id to Sd ; calfskins, to 3d per lb ; 2 tons fat ones, 7s 6d to 14s; 11 bags of wool, 3d to 7f d. Privately he sold 1600 half bred ewes at 7s 3d, 484 hoggets at Bs, 250 merino ewes at 3s 9d, 350 2-tooths at lls 6d, 208 2 and 4-tooths at 12s 9d, 51 do at lls 6d, 226 fat ewes at 10s 9d, 200 crossbred do at 12s 6d, 100 halfbred do at 8s 6d, 150 2-tooths at lls 6d, 286 2 and 4 J tooth ewes and wethers at lls 9d, 10 head of fat steers at £5 ss, and 6 fat cows at £4 ss.

Messrs W. Collins and Co. report a good demand for milling wheat and shbrt oats during the week. Feed oats are entirely neglected. Malting : barley is enquired for. Derwent potatoes are now being offered‘freely"at'3,7s 6d to 49s per ton at country stations. At the corn exchange on Saturday they sold fowl wheat up to 2s 3|d per bushel, sacks extra. A line of 290 sacks of feed oats brought 4s ‘to 4s 3d per sack, sack extra. Carcases pork, 4£d per lb ; onions, lls per cwt ; and general produce sold well.

ENGLISH MARKETS, London, May 8. Frozen meat is unchanged. Wool is steady, ■ The imports for April decreased £1,500,090, and the exports increased £700,000, compared with the same month last year. Eight thousand two hundred quarters of New Zealand wheat, April shipment have been sold at 343 94., The demand for money is moderate. The bank rate of diseaunt is 8 per cent; market rate : 2 per cent. .New Zealand hemp, best quality £22 5s to £22 10s. New Zealand 4 per cent inscribed stock, 106. May 9. New Plymouth Harbor Board stocks are down to 60. The wheat ex barque Carizal, from Lyttelton, was resold at 85s 6d, being an increase of 9d. Two Australian cargoes, March shipment, sold at 35s 9d. The wool sales closed with the market steady. Merinos medium greasy -|d, inferior Id; scoured superior quality l|d, inferior 2d; crossbreds—medium greasy id, inferior Id, below February rates.
