It is;expected, that the surveys will be sufficiently 'advanced to enable 219,920 acres of land to be offered for sale, before the 30th June next, namely 53,000 acres in Auckland, 20*500 in Taranaki, 3280 in; i; Hawke’s " Bay; 50,900 in Wellington, 137,910 in Marlborough, 5390 in Nelson, 1000 in Westland, and 18,420 in Otago. This estimate is independent of the Canterbury returns which have not yet come in. It is very probable that the Premier will not address his constituents before the session. He fully intended to do so a few weeks ago, but it is feared that the strain may prove too great a tax upon him just now. The committee of the Grocers’ Association, Christchurch, unanimously agreed that the members are well satisfied with last Saturday’s trade and have no cause to regret closing at 6 p.m. on that day. Before the court of appeal, Wellington, in the case of Brysdale and Bruce’s Patent Oatmeal and Milling Company (in liquidation), Mr Downie Stewart for respondents, who are the liquidators of the company, raised the preliminary objection that Drysdale had no right to appeal against Mr Justice Williams’ decision, by which he was placed on the list of contributories, Their Honours decided the question in favor of the liquidators. No costs were allowed.
