An exchange says:—“ Mr E. Allan Wright, of Auckland, has succeeded in importing a numbec of insects which prey upon the codlin moth. These were a present from the United States entomologist, Professor Sir Charles W. Eiley, and consist of 21 small boxes' of raphidia, contained in a large bo*. Of these all say© thee© seem itlive and well. Sixteen are in the pupa state and one uU the larve. The last at once attacked and devoured a eod|in moth grub, though larger than itself, and as soon as it had recovered from the effects ot the gorging ate several other grubs. So far the experiment has been succeslul. The package was sent through the office to avoid interference from custom house officers and delay, but |or some reason these gentlemen got hold of the packet and opened and examined it, the process costing the Joss of a seventh part of the insects 10 days* delay. The yaphidia is pot a true' parasite, bpt a predacious insect of the same order as the dragon fly and the whit© ant.”
