TEMUKA TOWS BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Temuka Town Board took place last night. p re . sent —Messrs J. Blyth, P. Ooira, S. Clinch, G. J. Mason, and A. R. Allan. ELECTION OF CHaIEMAN. On the motion of Mr Clinch, seconded by Mr Mason, Mr J. Blyth «ras unanimously elected chairman for the remainder of the period, in place of Mr K. F. Gray resigned. Mr Blyth thanked the members, and trusted that their relations would be of the same cordial nature that had characterised those existing with his predecessor. ;■'■'■ NEW MEMBER. The returning officer, Mr W. Wills, Wrote notifying the election of Mr A. K. Allan to the vacancy on the board, caused by the resignation of Mr Gray. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and dealt with : From Messrs Smithson and Eaymond, asking for proportion of rates payable in respect of the Temuka Hotel, so that the incoming tenant's share might be apportioned.—Replied to. From Mr R. Pinckney, churchwarden of St. Saviour's Church, asking permission to carry a pipe under Vine street, to carry off soapy water, etc., from the parsonage. From Mr D. Henry, requesting that his name might be removed from the roll in reßpect of property now occupied by Mr "Vallender.—Mr Vallender consenting, exchange had been made. From Mr P. Coira, requesting that Mrs : Perceval's name might be placed on the roll in place of his in respect of the Wallingford Hotel. From the same, requesting that his name might be removed from the roll in respect of property leased to Messrs Whitehead and Son, and their names substituted. From Mr Salmond, making a similar application in respect of property occupied by him from Mr Coira. From Mr Job Brown, requesting that the name of Mr T. Gibson might be B ub« slituied for his in respect of sections 255 end 264, Davey street. .From MrT.B. Sheen, requesting that his name might be substituted for that of Mr J. Brown in respect of property leaeed from him. From Messrs J. Tangney and W. McCann, making similar applications. The necessary formalities havin» been complied with, the substitutions' were ordered to be made.

THE PARSONAGE DRAIN. The overseer stated that pipe drain applied for by tho churchwardens of St. Saviour's Church had been duly put in. Mr Mason asked by whose authority the work bad been carried out. The overseer said the matter had been several times before the board, and on receipt of the appiicatiou lie had thought it liie duty to have the same carried out. Mr Clinch objected to the granting of such a precedent. It was likely to cause trouble at a future date. k After some little discussion Mr Mason moved, "That the vestry of St. Saviour's Church be informed that since the work in question has been carried out without authority it can only remain at the rj'easure of the Shou'd any objection be made the drain must be at once removed. ' Seconded by Mr Coira and carried. THE BOARD'S RESERVE, The specifieatton of conditions of lease of reserve applied for by Mr Franks whs read, uDd several suggestions made thereon, but do tender having been received for the reserve discussion dropped. OFFICE REPAIRS. The chairman and Mr Clinch were authorised to airange for repairs to the office floor, etc., and on the suggestiou of the clerk it was also agreed to have a letter, box fixed in a suitable place. oyerseer's resort. The overseer's report stated that the new rate roll was in preparation, but was not completed, as certain changes of oc- ■ cupying or ownership had not yet been riolifled. A drain for carrying off soapsuds and tap water from the Ani>lio<n parsonage, which had long been the cause of complaint, was satisfactorily completed. The drain consisted of flanged pipes under Vine street, pro!eotecl at the exhaust with . boulders, e'c, The culverts to the roi'way approaches had been protected. Few repairs had been required to the roads, owing to dry weather] although the W6ar and tear hid been exceptionally heavy. Jobs actually required could be done by day labor. For tie year ending Maich 31, 1890, 57 dogs were registered, as against 25 the previous year. Some slight repairs had been mode to the fence around the board's premises, as there was a possibi ity of cows trespassing upon the section. In accordance with a notice fiom the Temnka Road Board all gorse had been grubbed from the Waitohi road. On Monday night a traction engine, combine and water cart, owned by Mr StreeUr, of Waitohi, wiie drawn up in Ewen road, adjoining section .308, just off the Main South Road. It was removed early on Tuesday morning. No tenders had been received for the lease of part of reserve 320 applied for by Mr F. Franks. The surfaceman's contnct expired on 31-t April, 1890. The overseer was authorised to engage dray labour for two doye for shing'e repair.

In reference to the traction engine having been left upon the road the board were of opiniou that the police should deal wiih such matlere. Mr Mason moved, and Mr Clinch seconded, and it was carried, "That in future persons causing such should be prosecuted." STREET CLEANING. It. was resolved that the surfaceman having given general satisfaction, he be allowed to continue at the existing annual contract rste. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £22 9i 4d were passed for payment and the meeting germinated.
