Temuk4 LrcENaiNa Committee.—The annual meeting of the Temuka Licensing Committee, will be held on Friday, 6th June. Hammond TEMUK4 Eoad Boabd.—The monthly meeting of this Board takes place to-day, commencing at 11 a.m., ? nd the annual meeting of ratepayers takes pkee at noon. Geeaidinb Stock Sale.—The fortnightly sale of etock at Geraldine comes off tomorrow. Messrs J. Mundell and Co., Messrs H. B, Webster and Co., and Mr E. R Guinness, with Mr A. E. Cox, advertise numerous entries, and book further entries up to hour of sale.

Obabi Beidse School.—At the meeting of householders at Orari Bridge the following, were elected a committee :—G. Helem, W. Ashby, A. McLean, Alex. Macdonald, j'. Wharton, W. Gould, and W. Hew.on. The latter was afterwards elected chairman. Gebaldine Litebaex Society. Tne annual meeting of the Geruldine Literary and Debating Society will be held in thV Literary Institute to-morrow, at 7.30 p m when the Rev. T. A. Hamilton will deliver an address. A very enjoyable evening should be spent by those attending. Temuka Litebart Society.—The Temuka Literary Society open their second session this evening, in the Oddfellows' Hall with a social. Admission is to be by ticket only, and persons desirous of attending can obtain tickets from the secrttn-y, Mr W Cooper. The society is already strong, and the session ought to be a most successful one Road Boabd Election.—A poll to elect a member to fill the vacancy on the Geraldine Road Board, caused by Mr Slack's retirement, takes place to-morrow, the candidates being Messrs K. Bropby W &I Meore, and R ; Skinner. The polling places are tha Road Board Office, Geraldine, the Hilton schoolroom, and the Woodbury echoolroom, and tbey will be open from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Siflb Matoh.—On Saturday the third match between the Jemuka Rifles and tk° honorary members of the corps was commenced at the range. There wa ß some difficulty in obtaining a sufficient number to compete, and several will, in consequence, have to fire during the week. The shooting was fairly good, the honorary members having the advantage. The scores will be published when the matoh is completed. Canine Sagacity.—The following good story is from the Stock-keeper : let their bouse furnished, leaving in it a large dog. The tenant was an old lady who liked to sit in a particularly comfortable chair in the drawing-room, but as the dog was also fond of the ohair, she frequently found him in possession. Being rather afraid of the dog she did not dare to drive him out, and therefore used to go to the window and call "Cats '' The dog would then rush to the window and bark, and the lad v would take possession of the chair One day the dog entered the room and found the lady in possession of the chair. He ran to the window and barked excited y. The lady got up to see what was the matter, and the dog instantly seated himself in the chair.
