AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS. TIMARU. Messrs G-racie, Maclean and Go. report for* the paßt fortnight ending Saturday,.as follows: — Horses—There is a decided improvement in the demaad for draughts suitable for road and farm work, and afc the Timaru Horse Baaaar in all; instances where the reserves have! been reasonable we have sales, ihere are very few hacks or harness horses offering. "We quote medium to good draughts at from £lB to £25, inferior and aged £8 to £l2. Hacks—medium ; £8 to £lolos, light and weedy £3 to £6. Sheep—At Winchester "Pair, on the Bth inst., an average number were entered. We sold 369 2-tooth ewes and wethers at 10s 9d, 51 ewes at 4s 4d, 42 fat ewes at 10s 3d, 48 rams at 2 guineas. At Washdyke yards, we sold 75 lambs at 8s 9d, 62 do at 7s 9d, 140 ewes at 7s, 163 culls at 4s, 79 aged ewes at 4s, 186 half-bred ewes at ss, 176 do do at 4s lOd, 60 fat wethers at 12s 6d, 40 ewes at 4s, 145 lambs at 7s lOd. Cattle—At the various yards during the past month, entries have been exceedingly small, and but little business doing. We sold 10 bullocks at £5, 2 cows afc £5 2s 6d, 1 springer at £4 12s 6d, 1 heifer at £2 12s 6d. Pigs—Very few offeriog, with a large enquiry for well grown stores and bacon pigs. We sold sat 27s 6d. Messrs W. Collins and Co report for the week on the market as follows:;
The entries consisted of 406 sacks seconds wheat, 196 do thirds, 814 do different kinds or. oats, 96 do farmers' rye grass seed, 80 do onions, 134 do potatoes, 4 do Blue Prussian peas. Every entry was sold with the exception of the oats, as owners seem very loth to part with them at the low price ruling. Quotations for the day were as follows :—Seconds wheat 2s 3d, Is lOd, Is 7d, Is 6d per bushel, sacks extra ; thirds wheat was sold by the sack at Is 9d to 4s 6d ; onions, £9 per ton. The potatoes were hardly ripe, consequently figures ruled as low as 36s to 48s per ton; rye grass seed 2s 9d to 2s lOd; peas 3s Id per bushel. We have an order for 500 sacks derwent potatoes c.i.f., Sydney. Any grower having having that quantity should communicate with us. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, April 18. The following are the current quotations for the principal silver mine shares :—Broken Hill Proprietary, £l4; British Broken Hill, £4 12s; Central; £9 13s ; Broken Hill North, £1 6s;, South, £5 Is 6d ; Block 14, £5 15s; Block 10, £lO Is 6d; Junction, £4 4s. ENGLISH MARKETS. , London, April 17. An Australian cargo or wheat, prompt shipment, has been sold at 355. At the wool sales good greasies are bringing best prices. There have been heavy withdrawals of inferior merinos. April 18. Heavy wools are slow of sale. Prices remain unchanged. The lamb by the Zealandia is selling at 6^-d; the mutton at 4£d. New Zealand beef, hind quarters, 4|d ; forequarters. 4d. From 80 to 150 carcases by the Ashleigh Brook have been condemned, and a total of 2000 are more or less affected. April 19. New Zealand butter, good quality, 75s ; prime quality, 85s. Cheese, good quality, 475. Eecent arrivals have been of unequal quality. The wool market is steady. &outh Australian is neglected owing to its being of a wasty character. Foreign buyers have taken three-fifths of the bales available. Leather is neglected, the bulk being bought in. Basils have declined |d, and hides £d per lb.
