Second Day. The races were continued yesterday amidst wretched weather, which militated against the attendance. The starting was only fair, the horses being more or less restive at the post. Handicap Hurdle Race of 5© sovs ; second horse 10 sovs from the stakes ; miles. Mr J. Poole’s Wailangi, list 7'b ... 1 Mr J. Gibson’s Hollywood, 9sl 2ib ... 2 Mr T. Sbdenan’s Sankey, lOsl 2 b ... 3 Securus and Cynaaro also ran. 5.0.J.0. Handicap, of 125 eovs; second horse 10 sovs, and third horse 5 sovs from the stakes ; li miles. Mr H. This was a grand race, the three placed horses keeping well together. Coming into the straight St. James looked the winner, but shut up under the whip, allowing La Rose to beat him half a chain from the post. Noted Race (Handicap), of 80 sovs ; 6 furlongs. Mr T. Daly’s Lady Darling, Sat 101 b ... 3 Wire In, Emma, Outlaw, Nero, and Lady Isabella also started.
Stßwahds Stakes, a welter handicap of 30 sovs ; second horse 10 soys from the stakes ; 6 furlongs ; winner of 5.0.J.0. Handicap 51bs extra. Mr H. Craig’s La Bose, list 11b (including 51b penalty) ... ... ... 1 Mr A. L. Popham’a Alcinous, 10st 131 b... 2 Messrs M: and O. Hobbs’s Road Metal, 9s 31b 3 Sir Julius and Savoy also ran. Little Shamrock and outwork were scratched.
A Hack Race, of 15 sovs, 4 furlongs, brought out 6 starters, and was won by Collingwood.
For the Consolation Handicap 6 startad, Alcinous, Sst 121 b, winning easily, with Warlock second, and Quibble third.
