Allan Taylor, an old resident of Auckland, having been for forty years in the district, died suddenly on Monday of apoplexy. An English journalist, finding that one of his sons evinced a natural talent for cookery, has hod him educated for that walk of life, in which he will be able to command an income of from £250 to £3OO as soon as he is twenty, with a reasonable prospect afterwards of rising to £IOOO a year. Mr Carpentier, the chef of the new Savoy Hotel, on the Thames Enbankment, receives £ISOO per annum, and considerably more than that as commission on the purchases he makes. Mr W. K. Vanderbilt pays his cook £2OOO a a year, but failed to retain a famous foreigner, because the latter found that there were no pickings to be had over and above his salary. The noted qual.ty of the Ooffoe made in the OiifcSs of Turkey, France, and America is chiefly duo to the fact that only Fresh Boasted Coffee is used ; so that none of the volatile oil and other essentials are lost. Ask your grocer for Anderson’s Coffee, and you will have a beverage alike refreshing and stimulating, as it is fresh roasted and ground at the factory, Timaru.—[Anvx, 9.J
