CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS. At the Addington Yards on Wednesday not a great amount of business was done, a good portion of the entries being returned. ! Fat Cattle—But few good sorts were yarded, the greater portion of the entry consisting of heifer and cow beef. First-class beef may be quoted at 19s to 21s per 1001 b, and : inferior from 15s to 18s. Store Cattle—A few useful three-year-olds changed hands up to £3 10s, while yearlings made from 14s. 6d to 20s a head. Lambs—A fairly large entry of decidedly inferior sorts. This caused a decline in values to the amount of Is a head all round. Fat Sheep—A fair entry, several lines of magnificent sheep being yarded. For freezers the demand was equal to late markets, but towards the end of the sale a marked decline was noticeable. Best quality brought from 2d to 2-|d per lb. Among th|e lots sold were: for Mr A. M. Clark, 40 crossbred wethers at 17s 6d, 40 do at 16s Bd, 70 do at 15s 9d, 25 do at 15s 6d, 26 do 15s, 26 crossbred maiden ewes at 15a, 25 at 14s 9d, 25 at 14s 2d, and 23 at 13s 9d. Pigs— A large entry, and demand good. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday • Wheat—This week has not been remarkable for any stir in this trade. The inquiry reported last week for prime shipping parcels still holds good, but prices have in no way improved. The demand is principally for prime tuscan, but prime lots of velvet and rad straw are also inquiied for. Medium is also saleable, hut at prices ruinous to growers. Prime tuscan, 3s per bushel; prime red straw and velvet, 2s 9d to 2s lOd ; inferior “to medium, 2s 4d to 2s 6d. These prices are for net cash, bags extra. Oats—Some large transactions have taken place in these during the past week, but prices have now eased off a little. The auction sales this week were not marked by any keen demand, prices at these being fullv a penny below last week’s. Prime “milling, Is 5s to Is 6d ; bright feed, Is 4d to Is 5d ; inferior, Is 2d to Is 3d. Barley—The great bulk of this season’s crop can only be described as medium. Prime samples are readily saleable at good prices, but inferior and feed barley is unsaleable. Prime malting, 3s to 3s 6d ; medium, 2s 6d to 2s lOd.
Grass Heeds—Ryegrass : .Farmers’, 3s 3d to 4s ; machine-dressed, 4s 6d to 5s 3d. Cocksfoot, to 4d per lb, f.o.b, Lyttelton. Chaff—Light, £1 15s to £2 6s: heavy, £2 10s to £2 15s. Potatoes—Kidneys not saleable; dervyents, £3 7s 6d to £3 12s 6d. Pigs—Well fed, good sizes, 3id to 3fd ; hams, 8d ; rolls, 6d to 6^d. Carrots, 40s. Straw—Oaten and wheaten, 355, Hay—Oaten, £3 ; clover and ryegrass, £3 ss. Butter—Salt, the demand has fallen Eggs, scarce, Honey, to sd. J Cheese—Factory, 4d; loaves 4Jd * Akaroa, 3£d ; loaves, 4d. ’ Sheepskins —On Tuesday town butchers’ green skins brought from 2s 3d te 3s 6d ; do do lambskins, 2s 7d to 3s 6d ; dry skins, full woolled, 4s to 6s 9d ; do do medium growth, 2s to 3s 3d ; do do pelts (shearlings), 3d to Is 3d ; do do lambs, Is 6d to 2s 6d. Hides—Primes dry salted hides, free of cuts, are worth up to 3d per lb; light and medium, to 2£d per lb. Tallow—A slight enquiry for shipping exists. Locally prices are: Prime mutton tallow, 18s 6d to 20s ; prime mixed tallow, 16s to 18s • medium tallow, 14s to 15s; inferior tallow, 10s to 13s; rough fat, 10s to 12s. DUNEDIN STOCK MARKET. At the Burnside Yards on Wednesday the following business was transacted :
Fafc Cattle—l 73 head yarded, and of these not more than half a dozen pens were fair medium beef. The balance was madeup of inferiorbeefand old cows. Prices ruled much the same as last week. Best bullocks brought from £6 17s 6d to £8; medium to good, £4 17s 6d to £6 15s ; lightweights in low condition, £2 17s 6d to £4; cows, £2 15s to £5 17s 6d. Bat Sheep—34s9 penned, of which 250 were merino wethers. The supply chiefly consisted of ewes, but there were also a few pens of prime freezing wethers. Bor all classes of mutton there was a keen demand, and prices on an average were about Is better than those ruling last week. Best crossbred wethers brought from 12s 9d to 14s 6d; ordinary to good, 10s to 12s 6d; best crossbred ewes 11s 6d to 13s 6d; inferior to medium 3d ; merino wethers’ 4s 9d to 10s 3d. Among the lots sold were: Bor Mr W. Grant, Timaru. 31 n°s 8 9d r ewes at 128 9d ’ and 31 at Bat Lambs—A moderate suunlv penned (648). Prices ruling week were fully maintained. Best lambs brought from 7s 9d to 9 a medium, 6s to 7s 6d. Pigs-232 penned. The demand was not quite up to last week’s, and prices were distinctly easier.
ENGLISH MARKETS. London, March 30. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Qompany, Limited, have received the following cable message from London, dated April Ist :—/ /' Wheat—Market is very quiet, New Zealand long-berried and average is worth respectively 37s 3d and 33s 9d per 4961 b; New Zealand f.a.q. is worth, c.i.f. to arrive, 33s 6d per 4801b’, Pebruary-March bill of lading. 3?abbit Skins—The demand is active Best descriptions have advanced 2d and medium per lb since last report ; inferior descriptions are unchanged.
