Hone Piahiama died at Parihaka, Hew Plymouth, on Tuesday night, aged about 65 years. He was always friendly to Europeans, but when the war in 1860 broke out he decided to go with his people. In 1865, with about 300 Natives, he surrounded General Cameron in his camp at i Hukumaru, and nearly succeeded in making him a prisoner. In 1866 Hone came in, and afterwards did his best to promote peace between the two races. In 1870 he acted as guard when Cobb’s coach, with Sir W■ Fox at ma de its first Journey through Native country. Eventually he become proprietor of the coach and carried the mail, receiving a pension tor hia services.
