ACCIDENTS, FATALITIES, ETC.
Auckland, March 30. Miss Emma Featherston, daughter of Mr Featherston, owner of the steam yacht Nautilus, was dangerously crushed between the yacht and the wharf at Lucas’ Creek yesterday. She is supposed to be dying, A small boat capsized in the harbor to-day in a high sea, and the occupants, two girls and a young man, were thrown into the water, The accident occurred near the spot whore the Persian Empire which arrived from London on Saturday! is lying. Some of the officers and crew of that vessel jumped into the water and rescued the occupants of the boat, but the third mate of the Persian Empire was drowned, Two brothers named Floyd were eating grapes at Wade, in the dusk of the evening, when one playfully threw a terry at the other, who did not see it coming, and it hit his left eye. The unexpected concussion completely destroyed the eye. Wellington, March 28. At the Magietrate’s Court to-day James McKenzie, one of those locked out of the Petone Woollen Mill, was charged with using offensive language to a female operative of the mill as she was proceeding to work. The bench of justices said such intimidaiion could not be borne in this country, and bound the accused over to keep the peace for six months. Westport, March 28. Mrs North, wife of T, 0. North bootmaker, late of Greymouth, dropped* dead this evening while talking with Hodgson and Marshall in her house, her husband being also present. It i 8 supposed that apoplexy was the cause. Christchurch, March 30 A young man named William Gundry has been accidentally killed near Oxford. He was slightly drunk and walking along the road on Thursday night when a dray driven by one Paget came behind him. He moved aside but staggered against the shaft, was knocked down and the wheel passed over bis stomach,’ ihe driver was not to blame.
