The tramway employes at Dunedin have decided to form a union. Twenty-five new members have joined the Tailoresses’ Union at Wellington, bringing the total number up to 400, The new logs adopted by the union are to be brought into force next month. The proprietors of the Wellington Evening Post have been served with a writ at the instance of Henry Eoberta. a printer, claiming £505 damages for an alleged libel contained in a paragraph published on February llth, imputing that he had been guilty of dishonorable conduct by offering to secure to the Wellington Football Club the services of four of the Poneke Club for a monetary consideration- Eoberts; is a well-known footballer. At Hokitika on Thursday morning the Theatre, Levy’s store, Westland Hotel, Pollock’s tobacconist, Ogilvie’s stable and house, three unoccupied cottages, Schaef’s upholstery, and Sargison’s bakery, were destroyed by fire. The insurance and cause of the fire are unknown.
