CONCERT AT GERALDINE.
A concert under the auspices ef the .-jk Patrick’s Day Sports Association was held in the Volunteer Hall, Geraldine, on Monday evening last. The attendance was very large. The committee had, at a considerable amount of trouble, arranged the stage very conveniently, so as to provide wings, etc. Mr R. H. Pearpoint, president of the Association, stated that the present concert was the first held in connection with the Association, but it was hoped to make it an annual one. He thanked the large audience for the support they had accorded by their attendance at the sports, and their presence there that evening. The committee wished to make the Association a great success, and it was for the public to say whether it should be a success, the satie as the Caledonian Society was wheiever it was started, or whether it shoulS be otherwise. He pointed out that it lested solely with the public, and the only means by which success could be achieved was for a great many persons to become members of Association. He also said that as the programme ■vas a large one, and a dance to follow, the audience would please refrain from demanding encores. He then called upon the Misses Fish to open the concert with a pianoforte duet. This item, and also the duet played by the same young ladies in the second part, was a treat. Miss s > N C!onnolly, of Temuka, followed with the ever popular song, “ Come back 1o Erin,” and in the second part rendered the old and pathetic song, “ Dublin Bay.” Mr F, D. Lowe, who was in good voice contributed “ Ruby,” and in the second part “ Love’s Golden Dream.” He also took the place of Mr Aitken, who was unavoidably absent, and gave “Let me like a Soldier Fall,” with much spirit. J. Moule contributed the spirited songs, “ A Free Lance,” and “ I’ll conquer or Die,” in capital voice. Mr H. W. Moore rendered “ The Bedouin Love Song,” and “ The Grenadiers,” in a way that brought down the House. Collins, Mr McGibbon sang “ A Romany Lass,” in a manner which showed he has a fine tenor voice. Cochrane warmed the earts of the sons of Scotia present by his rendition of “The Battle of Stirling.” Mr F. B. Early contributed a real gem in the song “ The Little 1 Air A. "W- Gaze had uniSmmately to send an apology for enforced absence, and his place was taken by Mr H. W. Moore. Miss Fish acted as accompanist for the singers, and added not a little to the pleasure of the concert by her discreet playing, The singing of the National Anthem closed the concert. The audience was one of the rudest that has ever gathered at a concert i n Geraldine, some not even refraining from talking, laughing, humming, etc., while the ladies were singing, A daiice was held afterwards which was very successful.
