AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the above board was held last night. Present— Messrs E. Lee (chairman), E. Yallender, A. Frew, J. Ashwell, and E. Brown. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read From the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, covering receipt for £5 3s 6d for second moiety of contribution to hospital and chaiitable aid.

From Messrs Aspinall and Salmond, as solicitors for the Temuka Town Board, stating that they had received instructions to apply for payment of the sum of £llos, being the registration fees for three dogs illegally registered with the Arowhenua Town Board by Mr Gaze. They had advised their clients that the refund of these fees was legally enforcible, and that therefore unless the amount was paid forthwith proceedings would be taken to recover the same.

Erom the Property Tax Commissioner covering form to be filled in by the chairman to entitle the board to receive subsidy on rates collected to July Ist, 1889. " From the Manager Bank of New Zealand, stating that the sum of £SO, with interest, had been transferred to current account.

overseer's REPORT. ' The overseer's report was read as follows :

" Q-entlemen,—ln accordance with instructions I have invited tenders for cleaning the Arowhenua creek throughout its entire length, including that portion flowing from Ackroyd's bridge to the junction with the main creek at the board's reserve. The same will be submitted for your consideration. I have received two applications for footplanks, one from Mr Mclnnes to cross the creek opp©site his section, and the other from residents on north side of Eayner street, who are desirous of having a shorter road to Temuka than by the track already existing. If the board consider either or both applications, provision can be made for fixing the same while the creek is being cleaned. During the ensuing month the labor of one man for a week or 10 days will be required tj keep the main roads in repair, as there is already a good deal of heavy grain traffic—l have, &c, " A. W. Gaze, " Clerk." TENDERS. The following tenders were received for cleaning the Arowhenua creek:— Gr. Broderick 9d per chain (informal), M. Flaherty lOd, W. L. Duncan lOd, J. Carter lid, G. Washington 9d and Is (alternative), C. McAuliffe Is 3d, J. Hooper Is 3d, M. Melville 2s 4d. The tender of M. Flaherty was accepted. interview. Mr Mclnnes waited upon the board, and made application for a footplank to be placed across the creek near the section owned by Mr Eoberts. He had placed a plank there for his own convenience, but it was frequently shifted, and as it was frequently used he thought the board would be consulting the convenience of ratepayers in fixing one there.

Mr Mclnnes having withdrawn, the matter was discussed, and it was resolved to grant the applicationIt was also decided to put a similar footplank across the creek near the Chinamen's gardens, the work to be entrusted to the overseer. DISPUTED DOG REGISTRATION. After discussion the board decided to refund the amounts received in respect of the alleged illegal registration of three dogs, less the cost of their collars. The clerk was instructed to write to the Temuka Board that the matter would have been adjusted long ago had the request of that body been placed before the members in a manner less calculated to lead to a misunderstanding. There being several dogs registered by residents in Arowhenua with the County Council under similar circumstances, the clerk was instructed to write to the council upon the subject, I GENERAL. The clerk was instructed to take stringent measures for the collection of all rates, rents, or foes due to the board, and to issue summonses when he deemed necessary. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £5 17s 6d were passed for payment. The meeting then terminated.
