PRICE OF BREAD.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —When will the master bakers of this town allow its inhabitants to have a cheaper loaf than they are getting at present? There is no mistake about it, they were not slow in putting the price of bread up, but they are not so ready to lower the puce, even though flour is obtainable at £8 10s per ton. Such greed on their part is intolerable, and it would serve them well right if another good baker were to start in the place. Why can't bread be as cheap here as in Timaru? Flour is the same price at all mills in the district, and bread in Timaru is 5d the 41b loaf, and here it is Gd, even though cash is paid on delivery. There is no mistake, Mr Editor, agitation must be started to work up a strong Co-operative Association, with the bakery business as one of its leading features. It will have to be done, to check the few from becoming rich quickly at the expense of the many,—l am, etc., Faibplay. Temuka, March 11, 1890.
