A Bee Fight. —A most unusual thing a bee fight, is described in a Ross ex change. It appears that a swarm sough to find a habitation in a neighbor’s hive and this was promptly resented, ending in a battle royal. For an hour or two angry bees were 10 be met with in numbers between the two places, and anyone going along that way was sure to be stung. One well-known citizen of Ross sought to drive off the infuriated insects with his hat, and as a result received about seventy stings on his head, A poor dog, chained qp near the scene of the battle, was stung so severely that he became maddened and choked himself to death in his ineffectual efforts to eac-pe. It seemed ns if thousands of bees took part in the fight, and dead bodies of the pugnacious little insects were thickly strewn on the ground, Numbers of persons and animals in the vicinity were stung. The Horticultural Flower Show at the Exhibition on Friday was very successful. The entries exceeded in number any previous show, and in quality compared most favourably. There was no insurance. At Southbridge on Friday, Alex Spalding, the licensee of the Selwyn Hotel, wa,s fined £5 for supplying shandy-gafc to a man during prohibited hours. The same defendant was fined £2O, the maximum penalty, for supplying liquor to a drunken man.
