DUNEDIN STOCK MARKET.
At the Burnside Yards on Wednesday the following business was transacted :
Fat Cattle—279 head yarded, representing all grades of quality, some being very inferior and others equally prime. Opening sales showed a slight decline on last week's quotations, while towards the close there was a drop of from 10s to 20s p«T head, according to quality, light and inferior cattle suffering the most. Prime bullocks sold at frcm £7 to £8 15s; average weights, £6 to £6 10s; light, £4 5s to £5 ; half-fat steers, of which there were some offered in the fat cattle pens, £3 10s to £4; prime cows and heifers, £5 to £6 ss. Among the lines sold were, for Mr Jas, Austin, Winchester, 8 bullocks at from £7 17s 6d to £7 ss, and 6 cows at from £5 5s to £4 15s.
Eat Sheep—336o yarded. Some of the earlier transactions were marked by only a slight decline in price from last week, but as the auction progressed competition became weaker, and towards the close a drop of from Is to la 6d per head took place. The heaviest and best crossbred wethers
brought lis 3d to 325; a few. extra prime sheep to 12 3d ; average weight wethers, 10a to lis; lines in forward condition, but requiring a little mora finishing out to fit them for the butcher, 9s to 9s 6d ; best ewes, 9s to to 10s ; a few extra heavy to 13s 9d average weights, 8s to 6s 6d; ligh; and inferior, 6s 6d to 7s 6d. 70 erosst brod ewes were sold for Mr W". GrantTiaaaru, at from 9s to 10s. Fat Lambs—93l penned, the quality of which ranged from inferior to prime. The sale as a whole waß the most unsatisfactory held this season—m fact, towards the finish it was difficult to quit some of the lines. The day's quotatioßs may be given as 6s 6d to 7s 6d for good average lots, extra prime from 8s to 8s 6dj and in one case to 9s 9d ; medium, 5s 6d to 6s; inferior, 4s 9d to 5s 3d.
Pigs - 188 penned, the bulk of which were baconers, with a few porkers and weaners.j-xHeavy-weight bacon pigs broughte 40s "to 48s; medium weights, 34s fco 38s; porkers, 25s to 30s; weaners, 8s to 12s; slips, 15s to 225. Among the lines sold were for Mr T. J. Bume (Timaru), 5 at 465, 5 at 45a, 5 at 445, 3 at 375, 3 at 325.
