Ihe Shaw* Savill and Albion Company declare a dividend of 10 per cent., and an addition is made to the Reserve Funds. The sum of £25,000 is written off as depreciation of freezing machinery. Mr Bolton, Home Rnler, has been returned for the constituency of St. Pancras by a majority of 108. Through a brake failing, an express train running into Carlisle station collided with a standing engine, four persons being killed and fourteen injured, *'
Ihe opening ceremony in connection with the new railway bridge over the Forth, conducted by the Prince of Wales, was a most imposing spectacle.
The Aberdeen University has conferred the degree of Doctor of Divinity on the Rev. Mr Elmslie, of Cbristchurcb; New Zealand.
R.M.S. Aorapgi arrived at Plymouth to-day, all well, and her cargo of frozen meat in good condition.

The Guardian, referring to the Victorian Divorce Bill, states that it was the implied duty of the Australian clergy to have refused the communion to adulterers, to reject their friendship, and to deny religious and social status to these taking part in passing the unchristian law of divorce. In conclusion, it considers that it would be better for England to abandon the tight of veto. Obituary—Sir James Taylor Ingram, chief London magistrate ; aged 85, Mr Flanagan, the author of the series of articles in the Timep on '« Parnellism and Crime," was blackballed at the Alhenajum Club, Mr Stanley's book is to be called " Darkest Africa," and will appear early in May.
In connection with the Forth bridge Mr W. M. Thomson, chairman, and Sir J. Fowler, engineer, are to be made baronets ; Messrs Baker, engineer, and Mr Arral, contractor, will be knighted.
Lisbon, March 5. Serious noting has taken place at. Steabal, 18 miles from Lisbon, the origin of which is at present unknown. The military dispersed the whom were killed and many injured; It is feared that this bloodshed will iDflame the populace against monarchy. Paris, March 4. The French Chamber of Deputies voted a motion of confidence in the Government by 249 to 200. The result is regarded as a defeat tor the Ministry, owing to the fact that 120 members refrained from voting. Berlin, March 5.

Several Nihilists have been arrested in the vicinity of Anitchikoff Palace, Rome, March 5. The Pope has interdicted cremation. Pretoria, March 6.
Serious rioting has occurred here, and the mob prevented President Kruger from addressing a meeting at Johannesburg. They tore down and destroyed the Transvaal fUg, at the same lime singing " Rule Britannia." The police were called out and prevented further outrages being committed.
Washington, March 4. The sentence on Kilraiu, the pugilist, has been confirmed.

Sydney, March 5.
An engine, along with two carriages, was derailed near Blacktown to-day. Two passengers named Collis were dangerously injured, and a third, Mr Bairnsdnle, of Auckland, slightly. Mr Fehon, one of the Railway Commissioners, who bad jast been on a visit to New Zealand, says that the railways in that colony are remarkably well constructed and economically managed. The Rev. Mr Clouston, of Penrith, has been elected Moderator of the Presbyterian Assembly. In an able address he expressed the opinion that the time had come for the revision of the doctrinal standards of the Church. Since the Westminster Confession of Faith was drawn up the world had moved an ; to-day they required lighter weapons, more adapted to the altered circumstances. He urged the formation of a Creed suited to the present day. The speech created some surprise!

An examination of the steamer Sikh fiiDce she has been docked, shows that Bhe had a most remarkable escape from beiDg wrecked when she struck a rock in Torres Strait on her voyage from China here. The third »nd fourth rows of plates are dented for 13 inches, and the rivets are torn out for 40 feet on the port side and 22 feet on the Btarbootd side. The dents appear as if (he vessel had passed between two rocks, which had f crashed her aides in, Xt is considered
that if the hull of the Sikh bad been of iron instead of steel she would have instantly gone down.

No rocks have been discovered whare the steamer Quetta sank, and it is con. sidered possible that some r internai explosion may have caused the sad disaster. The testimony is uniform as to the very slight concussion only, and the tremendous grating. The captain remarked, that the first intimation of the ■ catastrophe sounded like the bursting, of ' a tank, followed by a grating sound. I The position of the Qaetta has been \ accurately buoyed. Forty-four bodies have been buried, only three of. which i were identified. |
