Auckland, March 6. A man named Gurney was sentenced to twelve days' imprisonment with hard labor to-day, for having wounded a dog by striking it repeatedly with a billhook. A well - known chief of the Ngatiapoa tribe, Wiremu Keepa, dropped dead a few days ago at bis house in Waibeme Island. Chbistchttrch, March 5.

William Howes, who fell oft the express train near Waikouaiti on the
20th of last month, has died in the Hospital. He had undergone the operation of amputation of one leg. A man named Dennis Daley was killed between Dunback and Macraes, by falling off the dray he was driving, one of the wheels passing over him.
