FIRE BRIGADES’ CONFERENCE.
The eleventh annual Conference of the United Fire Brigades’ Association commenced at Wellington on Monday Thirty-two ■ delegates were present. •Thb report of the Executive Committee stated that during 2 last year seven new brigades joined the association. The funds were still in a flourishing state; there being a credit balance of £l3O, and assets to the valhe of £BO. A torchlight urocessirin in Connection with 'the Fire Brigades Annual Demonstration took place the same evening and passed off very successfully, About 200 firemen, including the visiting teams, took part, and the various colored lights gave a very pretty effect. " On Tuesday it was decided to reduce the annual subscription to one guinea, and that each officer and delegate in charge of teams should be allowed cabin fares. The following events were decided :
Manual Engine (dry), one man— Gisborne (Isee penalty), 47.45ee, 1; Gore and Gordon, 47.8 sec, 2. Timaru (2sec penalty) finished fourteenth, 62sec.
• Hose and Hydrant, firemen—Gisborne, 46sec, 1; Wanganui, 52sec, and Wellington, 52 sec, 2. Timaru finished fifth in 63secs,
Ladder Race, one man —Fireman Harrison, Marton, 1; Foreman Broomdale, Hastings, 2. There were thirtynine competitors.
