GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of this board was held on Tuesday evening. Present-Messrs W. 6. Maslin (chairman) J Mundell, N. Dunlop, A. oherratt, J. Williams, and A. White.

CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows :

From Messrs Wcollcombe and Clulee with regard to two years rates due on Mrs S. Taylor’s property. From Mr C. E. Sherratt asking to be allowed to make a “ deadhead ” on bis property to connect with the water race. A discussion took place about the question of allowing deadheads or any other arrangement in connection with the raco . A great many complaints had been received as to the way the water was tampered with. Members were decided that soma recognised system of dealing with the water should be in force, and it was finally decided that the Chairman and Messrs sherratt, White, and Mundell should be a committee to draw up a

workable scheme dealing with the race water.

It was decided to write to the Fire Christchurch, pointing out that although the weather had continued dry so long, and the river dried up, there was still an abundant supply of water running down both sides of the street with a large quantity running to waste, while double the amount now running could be turned on if it was desired.

It was also decided to suggest to the Fire Association the advisability of their fire inspector visiting the town while the dry weather continued, so as to judge of the efficiency of the race for himself.

The Secretary of the Camara Fire Brigade wrote stating that the Brigade had no axes to spare. From Mr P. Kyne asking for bis name to be placed upon the rate roll for the Bush Hotel in lieu of T. Me A uliffe’s.—Granted.

From the Government asking for a copy of the resolution striking a rate for the year 1889-90—Resolution to be sent.

From Mr E. O’Brien stating that he had paid part of the rent due by him and promising to forward the balance as soon as possible.—Satisfactory. From Mr F. Baxter, enclosing plans for Mr Citron’s new shop for approval.—Approved of. The Sanger’s report was read. oveeseee’s bbeoet.

The overseer’s report was read, and the following resolutions passed:— The committee previously appointed was authorised to lake steps towards making a by-law for the more efficient dealing with the water race and trespassers thereon.

It was decided to cut up for posts the trees set fire to in the park, the same had to be cut down to extinguish the fire. It was also decided to advertise a reward of £l la for such information as would lead to the conviction of the person setting fire to the trees, and also to request the assistance of the police, and to use every endeavor to discover the culprit. LEASE OF SECTION. Mr L. Newport’s tender of 10s per annum was accepted for lease of section No. 194 for seven years. MISCELLANEOUS.

It was decided to call Mr Copping’s attention to the concrete kerbing in front of his premises being damaged by his dray passing over it, and allow him to put in a culvert provided the work is done to the satisfaction of the hoard’s overseer. The works committee was instructed to examine and deal with the large drain near Mr Mundell’s residence.

It was also decided to request the Payment of the interest due by the Womain Board. The clerk was instructed to warn Mr Kraus re the infringement of the by-laws in letting off firearms in the town. OUTSTANDING BATES.

The list of outstanding rates was again gone over, and those remaining were ordered to be summoned for the next Court day. The meeting then terminated.
