GERALDINE LITERARY INSTITUTE.

A meeting of the members of the committee of this institute was held on Wednesday last. Present—Messrs A. E. Hawkins (in the chair), H, B. Webster, A, White, and the treasurer and secretary. ANNUAL MEETING-. The audited balance-sheet for presentation to the annual meeting of members was laid upon the table. It was decided to hold the annual meeting some afternoon in the second week in March. CAKE AND APEON EAIE. The question of ways and means being discussed, Mr Webster stated that the ladies of the district were i willing to take immediate steps towards getting up a cake and apron fair for the benefit of the institute, provided the committee would endeavor to get up a gift auction for the same purpose. The suggestion was considered an admirable one, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the ladies for their generous help. It was decided to take action in the matter at once, and Mr Webster offered to allow any goods that might be given to be stored at his auction room. Messrs Hawkins and Webster were appointed a sub-committee to confer with the ladies and make arrangements re date, etc., also to report to a working committee consisting of Messrs Hawkins, Webster, White and the secretary, with a view to pushing on matters immediately. It was decided to make a strong canvass of the district for deflations towards the gift auction. All_ the members of the institute committee were appointed a committee for this purpose, with power to add to their number. Mr White was deputed to apply to the Town Board for permission to use the small park, and to make a charge for admission on the day of the fair accounts. Accounts amounting to £1 Us Id were passed for payment and the meeting terminated.
