MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the board was held in the Road Board Office, Peel Forest, on Friday, the 21st inst. Present —Hon. J. B. A. Acland (chairman). Messrs C. G. Tripp, R. Mackay, and R. Thew.

The following correspondence was read and dealt with :

From the Manager Union Bank of Australia, Tiraaru, intimating that the fixed deposits of £6OOO, maturing on the 23rd January, had been dealt with in accordance with the board's instructions. From the Secretary to the Treasury • intimating that the sum of £9B 8s 3d had been rsmitted to the credit of the board, beiog payment of subsidy under the Local Bodies Finance and Powers Act and Appropriation Act, 1888, on rates collected in the year ending 31st March. 1889. '

From the Commissioner Crown Lands, requesting to be furnished with an approximate estimate of the area of flax land in the district, including private, Crown, and Native lands.—The overseer was instructed to make out the return as requested.

From Mc J. E. Thompson, soliciting orders for the Canterbury Sheep Brand and Register Book.

From the Hon. J. B. A. Acland, containing a statement connected with a resolution passed by the board in 18Y6 in reference to cross roads in Peel Forest, From Mr G. J. Dennistoun, that he had inspected the protection works in the creek near Mr Tripp's house, and saw no Mason for departing from the former J resolution of the board.—Mr Thew stated 1 that he had, in company with Mr Dennistoun and the overseer, examined the works, and was of opinion that no further expenditure should be incurred on them.—After some discussion, it was proposed by Mr Mackay, seconded by chairman, and carried : " That the seven casks of cement be returned to Mr Tripp, and that for the future no more money ba spent by the board on the creek until the overseer report upon any damaga done likely to injure the road, and then the board to determine what sum, if any, m\\l be contributed towards such repairs." Proposed by Mr Tripp, seconded by Mr Mackay, atl d carried—" That the overseer ascertain f ror n Mr R. T.
