At the Burnside Yards on Tuesday the following business was transacted ;

Fat Cattle—lso head yarded for this week’s supply, fully one-half of which were little more than half and three-parts fat. The demand for really good cattle was fairly active, and prieec for these as compared with those of a week ago were from 15s to 20s a head better. On medium and inferior cattle, however, there is no improvement in values to chronicle. Best bullocks brought from £7 to £8 12s 6d; one pen extra heavy, £9 2s 6d ; medium to good, £5 15s to £6 7a6d; light weights, £8 15s to £5 10s; cows, £3 2s 6d to £6 2s 6d.

Fat (Sheep were in moderate supply, 2445 penned, and as the trade held light stocks a satisfactory sale resulted, prices on an average being quite Is per head higher than last week. Best crossbred wethers brought 12s to 13s ; ordinary to good, 10s 3d to Us 9d; best do ewes, 10s 6d to 11s 6d ; a few extra prime 12s 6d ; small to medium, 7s 9d to 10s; merino wethers to ss, On account of Mr John Grant (Willowbank), Temuka, 16 prime crossbred ewes and wethers at 12s 3d were sold.

Fat Lamba—The number forward (1049) was much in excess of the trade’s requirements, consequently ther© was a serious decline in values, and at the close sale prices were pretty near 2s lower than last week. Best lambs brought from 8s to 9s 6d; other sorts, 6s to 7s 6d.

There are, however, occasional inquiries for young merinos, and for good, sound,* fullmouthed merino ewes. Pigs—llß were penned, most of them medium-weight bacon pigs and porkers. Tor these descriptions there was a fair demand, and values may be quoted a shade higher. Prime bacon pigs brought from 40s to 535; porkers, 30s to 365; stores, 23s to 275; slips 15s to I8s; suckers, 7s to 11s. ’

Sheepskins—Ou Monday country dry crossbreds, inferior to medium brought Is 5d to 4s 3d ; do do merino, Is 4d to 3s lOd; medium to fullwoolled crossbreds, 4s 6d to 6s; do do merino, 4s Id to 5s Sd ; dry pels, 3d to Is 3d; green crossbred pelts (large size, and suitable for particular purposes), 2s 9d to 2s 3d; good to ordinary, 2s 2d to Is 8d; green lambskins, 2s lid to Is 10d.

The latest quotations for silver stock are : —British Broken Hill, £6 4s; Central, £l2 11a- North £2 Is ; >%oufch, £7 ; Block U, £8 12s;’ Block 10, £l3 8s lOd; Junctions, £7 Bs.

At the wool sales, 2000 bales were offered. Medium greasy brought 9-a-d; crossbred, 9fd ; average washed, Is Ifd ; good scoured, Is 7d. Melbourne, Feb. 19.

Wheat, for prime sorts 3s 7d is offered, but sellers are askiug for 3s Bd. Flour, stone made, £8; roller-made, £8 15s, with an upward tendency. Oats, Calcutta, 2s 4d ; Tartarian, 2a 7cl; Danish, 2s 9d ; stout quality’ 3s. Maize, 4s. Barley, malting, 4s. Bran, 10d. Peas, 3s. The sugar market is brisk. Mauritius whites, £25; Queensland, £l9. Adelaide, Feb. 19.

Wheat, shipping parcels, 3s 6d. Flour, stone-made, £8 10s; rollermade, £9 10s. Oats, 3s to 3s 3d. Barley, malting, 4s 3d to 4s 9d, with no buyers. Bran, 7|d. Pollard, 8d to Bfd. Mauritius sugar has sold rapidly at an advance of 25s per ton. Best whites are quoted at £25 10s.

London, Feb. 18. The best quality of the shipment of butter by the Austral has been sold at 105 a. Factory butter of uniform quality brought the highest price.

Feb. 19. Ihe wool market is unchanged. Forty thousand bales were carried forward to the second series which opens on the 10th April, and will be limited to 400,000 bales.
