THE PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY.

A deputation from the Early Closing; Association waited on the Presbyterian’ A ssembly last Monday urging that in the interests of religion and humanity Jt ought to call upon its ministers and office-bearers to use all their influence to secure the objects aimed at by the Association. 'ihe Rev. C. 8. Ogg, of St. Andrew’s, Wellington, was nominated as moderator.

The third Sabbath in March was set apart as a day of thanksgiving in the various congregations of the church, m acknowledgement of God’s goodness to the colony during the last fifty years. The annual report of the mission to the New Hebrides was read, and stated that the Rev. Samuel Wilson, the newly appointed missionary, a licentiate of the United Presbyterian Church, would shortly arrive in the colony. The committee pointed out that the appointment of the new missionary would make the permanent liability of the mission at least £450 per year. Ihe committee recommended the formation of a missionary association in connection with each congregation.

The report was adopted, and it was directed that the Presbytery of Christchurch should ordain the Rev. J. Wilson on his arrival.

It was arranged that the next General Assembly should be held on the second Tuesday in February, 1891, in St, Andrews’, Christchurch.

The Assembly then brought its sittings to a close.
