GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of this committee was held in the schoolroom on Wednesday euening last. Present— Messrs W. S. Maslin (chairman), 0. E. Sherratt, Jas. Riordan, and W. H. Walton. INSPECTOBS' BEPOET.

The Inspectors report on the annual examination of the school was read. The following is a summary : Standard VII,: Presented 7. Standard VI. •. Presented 7 ; failed, 4 ; passed, 3. Standard V.: Presented, 28; absent, 2; failed, 11; passed, 15. Standard IV.: Presented, 27; absent, 3; failed, 5; passed, 19. Standard III,: Presented, 35; absent, 2; excepted, 3; failed, 12; passed, 18. Standard II.: Presented, 28 ; absent, 2 j excepted, 1; failed, 1: passed, 24

Standard I.: Presented, 22; absent, 1; excepted, 1; passed, 20. Preparatory, 70. Percentage of passes, 40; percentage of failures, 25 j percentage on class subjects, 61; additional marks, 76. Eemarks Standard VII.: The answering of the Standard Til. pupils, examined in the work of Standard VI., was full and intelligent. Instruction in Latin and Algebra had been given to this class during the year. Class P: The infant department is conducted with much success. The school has passed a fairly good examination. The order, tone, and attention of the scholars are good. Jas. G-ibson Grow, M.A., Inspector. THE NEW SCHOOL.

The committee had noticed in the newspapers that a contract for building the new school had been let to Messrs Clinch and Lloyd, of Temuka, but no official intimation having been received from the Board of Education they could take no steps towards providing for the temporary housing of the children. APPLICATION FOR EEFTJjrD.

It was decided to again apply to the Board of Education for a refund of the sum of £2 10s paid out of the incidental fund for repairing the fences, the board having promised to pay the amount but not having done 80. VISITORS. The chairman and Mr Walton were appointed visitors for the month, and the meeting terminated.
