A man named &amuel Paterson, 40, attempted suicide at Islington, near Christchurch, on Tuesday. He cut his throat with a penknife. The tender of D. A night watchman named Nicoll, at Lyttelton, was missed at 2 o’clock on Monday morning, and was found on Tuesday iu the harbor. It is supposed he fell in. A farmer named Robert Stevenson, of Waitaki North, is missing. He left a letter stating that by the time it was received he would be in eternity, so suicide is suspected.
