London, Jan. 30. Lieutenant-General R. A, Logan, C. 8., 57th Regiment, He commanded four companies of the 57tb, being the main body, which rnshed and took the enemy’s redoubt at Eatikara River on 4th June, 1863, f Lieut. - General Robert Abraham Logan, C. 8., was born in 1824 and entered the army in 1841, becoming Captain in 1851, Major in 1855, LieuC Oolonel in 1863, Colonel in 1871, Major-

General in 1881, and Lieut.-General (retired) in 1882, He served in the Crimea alter the fall of Sebastopol in 1855 ; commanded a wing of the 57 ! h Regiment at Aden for about two years, during which time the troops engaged

in desultory warfare with the neighboring Arabs, and for his services was thanked

by the Brigadier-General Commanding. He commanded his regiment in the New Zealand War in 1861, being thanked in the general orders and mentioned in the

despatches ; and in 1863 attacked and took the Maori pah on the bunks of the Katikara river. For this he was again

mentioned in the despatches. He was engaged in subsequent operations on the West Coast of New Zealand until the close of the war. Be was created C.B, in 1865.]
