AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. TIMARU. Mr E. R. Guinness (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company,Limited)reports for the month ending Saturday, January 31st, as follows Cattle—Fat cattle are plentiful throughout the district, and no alteration on late prices, which are extremely low at present, can be quoted. At Washdyke yards and other fixtures the numbers brought forward have been very small. The principal reason of this is that butcher* seldom buy under the hammer; they prefer to get their supplies privately, if possible, which is to be much regretted. la stores, the market is very depressed and little or no business doing. Sheep—During the past month only limited numbers have been offered at the various sales, the bulk being did ewes. Any good mutton that is placed ou the market fit for export sells readily at equal to 2d per lb, skins and fat extra. Stores—There has been a large turn-over in this class of stock, and the demand for 2 and 4-tooth crossbreds is good. Prices range from 8s 6d to to 10s, according to size and condition. Sheepskins—Since our last report we have disposed of 4388, at the following prices:—Factory crossbreds (pelts) 2a 3d, 2s 6d, to 2a 9d, do lambskins 2s 6d to 2s lid, butchers’ pelts Is 6d, Is 9d, to 2s, country pelts 4d, 6d, lOd, Is, Is 6d, to Is 9d, fullwolled merinos 7£d to 7£d, do halfbreds 7£d, 7£d, to 7fd, do crossbreds 6£d to 7d. Hides—The market remains weak and no improvement m prices can be quoted. We have disposed of a largo number at late rates. Fat—We have na trouble in quitting all that comes forward at full current prices. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Jan. 30. The quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,804,000 quarters, and for the Continent 404,000. The American visible supply is estimated at 32,000,000 bushels. Wool is unchanged. At the sale today there was spirited competition. Twelve thousand bales were offered. New Zealand mutton, 4£d; Sydney do, 4d; Rockhampton do, 3fd. New Zealand beef—Hind-quarters, 4d ; fore-quarters, 3fd. Fifty bkles New Zealand hemp were sold by auction to-day. Good quality realised £27 10s; fair, £27, Feb. 1. Australian wheat, ex warehouse, 395; very restricted. New Zealand long berried ditto, ex store, 395; quiet. Copper, £49 per ton. Tin, £94 per ton. Iron, galvanised, Gaspel Oak, £2l. No. 1, best Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in the Clyde, 56s 6d; active. Tallow is bat, best mutton, 25s ; do beef, 245. Sugar, German beet, lls 9d, restricted ; Java, 15s. Wool quotations are unaltered, but remain firm at the prices of last series;
