Twenty-nine marksmen’s badges were earned in North Canterbury, and thirty In South Canterbury. The competition for district medals' by the winners of marksmen’s badges will take place towards the end of February* or early in March. The medals referred to are as follows';— (1) Gold medal for best shot in each island. (1) A gold and silver medal for second best shot in each island. (S) Si I ver medal fOr I lie' bast shot in each district. The medal in each case is to become the property of the highest scorer, if won three times iij succession, or five times at in'ervals. Marksmen who earned capitation for 1889 are alone eligib'e to shoot Tor these medals. The conditions are—D stances, 200 yards standing, 300 yards kneeling, 500 any position ; 10 rounds at each distance ; regulation, figure-targets. Officers commanding corps have bt'on directed to send in to the District Office a roll of members of their corps entitled to the efficiency badge, which wilt be awarded to all Volunteers who have been efficient for three consecutive years. The badge, a silk star, will be worn on the right arm, above the Austrian knot. Volunteers who have been efficient for six consecutive years will receive twe badges, and Volunteers who have been returned efficient nine times, which need not be consecutive, or in the same corps, will receive a silver star, to be worn on the right arm, above the el bow; in thac»ae of non-commissioned officers, above ths cheyrons.
