A peculiar case was reported to the Christchurch police on Wednesday from Sydenham. A man named Caddy, 25 years old, who is supposed incurably insane, had been locked up in a room for seven years by his parents, who are working people. He had not been starved or otherwise illtreated. Before he was locked up he was charged at the Police Court with molesting females in the park, and his parents then had him examined by several doctors, and his incarceration was the result.

During the last week Sew Hoy’s Beach Company, Otago, obtained 1060z5., and the Golden Gully Company 1270z5. of amalgam from 30 tons of stone. A. great “Retreat” of Roman Catholic clergy in Wellington .began at St. Patrick’s College on Wednesday. It will be conducted by the Rev. Rev. Father Leterrier, S.M., who recently arrived from England.
