GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of this Board was held yesterday. Present—Messrs F. R. Flatman (chairman), A. Met calf, J. Kelland, W. Deßenzy, and W. U. Slack. TENDEBS. Tenders were opened and dealt with as follows: Contract No. 363—Cutting cocksfoot in Gravel reserves—McGillicuddy, £1 ; J. Harrison, £2 (accepted). Contract No. 304—Formation, outtinga, and culverts, Henderson's road—J. Bechley, £4,i ; J. Sugrue, £3B 10d; Jonas Fifield, £37 (accepted). CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : From Mr M. Cook, Woodbury, asking tho Board"t? subst'tuto the name of Mr S'; aw on tbe rate roll for his, he having eold his land to bim. From M,r J. Smith, forwarding plane.
From the Geraldino* County Council, informina the board that the council had decided Dot to carry the Qeraldine Fltti waterrace down tho Gecaldine Road. From the Hon. T. Wigley, acknowledging the board's notificali.in to clear hie gorse off iho roads, tmd stating that ho hal advertised th( j work to let and slso offered it to several men, but a? yet had not been able lo yet it done at a eat.isfao'ory price. Workmen complained (hit at thn seneon of the year the gorsa Was (oo h-.ud, and also tint tluro was plenty of o'ber work to bo go!.. He that the board should allow the poise tmibbing to staud ever till after the harvest.—Tae hoard discussed the question at some length. Ibcy considpied that the law thould be allowed to tike its courst. Mr Wigley knew that allowing the gorse to grow on the road wjs illegal, and ho should have taken steps to clear it when it was younger if the plea of hardness waa a valid one. —Mr Kelland thought if it was difficult to get men perhaps it. would be as well to let it stand over til] after harvest.—Other members said that there were numbers of men out of work who would ha only too glad to get the work to do, and that the work ought to be done. Other people had cleared their gorse on receiving uotice, and it was not jugfc to compel one man to clear his Rorso and allow others to get off.— It waß decided that; the board could not accede to the request. Finally the following resolution was passed unanimously—" That in reply to Mr Wigley the board call upon inn: to clear the gorse from Collitt's road before harvest, or at onoc, so as to allow a reap-r and binder to be taken along Collttt's road • if this is done the board will grant un eztet.B-on ' of lime to elw the other roads until after j harvest."
From Mr Richard Dawe, Washdyke, asking the board to form the rond so as to give him access to his bush property, part sections Nos. 6659 and 7426, Ithubarb Fut. —lt was decided : " That as a sledge can now bo used for taking out limber tha board cannot entertiin the request." From the Post Office Department, asking the board to subscribe to tha Postoffioe and Telegraph Guide.—Not. required. INTERVIEWS. Mr McSbane waited on the board, and asked to have the drain near his property eleaned. He pointed out that the growih of watercress and other vegetal ion blocking back thn water caused damage to the road. —After discussing tho question, the board told Mr McSh ne that the roots of willows plaotrd by him alongside the drain obstructed the water considerably. They decided, however, to call tenders for and do tho work, provided Mr McSbane was willing to boar half the expense. Applicant noreed to this, and withdrew. Mr J. Fergusßon, Woodbury, again waited on the board with regard to the road at Wathi Bush.—lt was decided to push it on as soon possible. otbbsebb's ebpobt. The overseer's report was read as follow*: " I have the honor to report fo the month ending date bb under : Fair prugresg has been made with the contraots in hand. The following have been completed sinoe last board meeting: Shingling Somarville'a road, W&ihi Bush, shingling near Beattie'o, Hilton, extension and repairs to bridge near school, Hilton. Markham's Road : Aa instructed I have had a survoy made of this roadj an agreement drawn and signed, and the plans ore on the table. Tenders have been invited for the cocksfoot aetd in the board's reserves, and for the extension of Henderson's road, Kakahu Downs. The day men have been employed in repairing the Beautiful Yalley road, and also in tarring and painting the bridges when tho weather is suitable, Small birds: I have purchased 2455d0z of small birds heads and eggs at a cost of £2O 5s U.d. " W. Shibbs, " Overseer." Accounts amounting to £132 7s lid ware passed for payment.
Moved by Mr JTelland, seconded by Mr D. Renzv, and carried—" That Deposit No. 252, £250, and lodged with Bank of New South Wales, and Deposit No. 101493, £250, lodged with B.nk of New Zealand, be placed to ounvnt account with the Bank of New South Wales, likewise the interest accrued in each case." The meeting then terminated.
