INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC.
London, Jan. 8, Sixteen hundred postmen are laid aside by the epidemic, and their places have been filled by boys, Much delay is consequently experienced in the delivering of mails. Many of the police and tramway employes are also suffering from the disease, which, howi-vcr, has not assumed a severe type in England. Rome, Jan. 7. Influenza is spreading generally throughout Italy.
Vienna, Jan. 8. Halt the population of tbe city is prostrated with influenza. Berlin, Jan. 7.
The Prince of Thurntaxis has died of influenza. The mortality in Berlin is unusually high, Tbe dnwngpi-Empress Augusta, wife of William 1., raid mother of the late Emperor Frederick, died at 430 p.m. to-day in the presence of her grandson, the reigning Emperor. She had been suffering from influenza for some days. The dowager-Empress was the daughter of the Grand Duke of Saxe-Weimer, and wus born in September, 1811, married io Prince Wilhelm, afterwards W illiam 1., in June, 1829.
