AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.
The regular monthly meeting of the above board took place last night. Present—Messrs E. Brown, A. Prew, E. Yallender, and J. Ash well. The clerk apologised for the absence of the chairman. Mr Prew was voted to the chair. correspondence. Correspondence was read from Mr A. B, G-. Bhodes in reply to a letter from the Board under date December 17th, re basis on which the board receive money for land sold within its boundary.—Mr Bhodes would obtain the necessary information and forward as soon as possible. An account was received for 2s lOd for rates due to Timaru Harbour Board.—Passed for payment. THE TLHAEtT HOSPITAL. The clerk stated that he had been requested by several ratepayers to draw the attention of the Board to the
cases recently reported of the difficulty of admission being obtained to the 1 Timaru hospital. It was complained that in spite of the large expenditure on hospital extension that no provision was made for the admittance of cases presumably contagious, and further that the charge ot 5s per day was in excess of what a working man could p a y* the question was hri fly discussi'd. the board were opinion that the inform - lion before them was not sufficient to justify present action in the matter, and it was agreed that pending the result of the next meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board further consideration ol the subject should be postponed, NUISANCES. Mr Ashwell said he had been requested by a ratepayer to draw the attention of the board to a nuisance existing in Alexandra street, which was likely to prove detrimental to public health. The powers vested in the board as a local body were defined by the clerk, and he was instructed to take every step to have the nuisance remedied at once. EESERYES, ETC. The rents of several of the reserves being still in arrears, tbe clerk was instructed to give final notice to occupiers that legal proceedings would be taken to recover the same. He was also instiucted to continue the proceedings for recovery of arrears of rates. oyeeseeb’s eepoet. The overseer made a verbal report. Ihe only labor employed during the month was two men one day each. Beyond attending to necessary work it was agreed to defer projected work until more favorable season. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £5 6s 5d were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
