PEEL FOREST.

The annmal treat in connection with the united Sunday and day schools of Peel Forest took place at Mr Dennistoun’s homestead on Thursday last. The children assembled at Mr D. McKay’s store about one o’clock, and, accompanied by the teachers, marched in procession to the grounds, where racing, jumping, and other sports were soon in full swing, the prizes consisting of toys and cash. A splendid tea was laid towards evening, of which all partook, the tables being presided over by Mesdames Irvine and McKay and Misses A eland (2). After tea the prizes won at the day school were presented by Mrs Irvine, those gained at Mr W. E. Barker’s Bible Class by Mr Barker. The prizes consisted of books, of which a splendid collection had been obtained. The sports and games held during the day were very successful. Messrs R. Thew and S. Eae, senr., acted as fudges, and Messrs D. McKay and E. Irvine as handicapper and starter Mefsrs Dennistoun, Newman, and others also worked hard to make the gathering a success. Mr C. GK Roskruge, the schoolmaster, was unavoidably absent. One of the prizes for racing was a new watch, which was obtained by a shilling subscription, the balance after the watch was purchased to go the prize fund. The sum of 45s was thus raised, the watch being bought for £l. It was won by William Handford. At the conclusion of the treat the adults, at the invitation of the school committee, attended a social held in the schoolroom. There were about seventy persons present, and everyone appeared to enjoy themselves thoroughly. Songs and recitations were given, and games of all sorts indulged in, the company not separating till a late hour, “ The superintendent of the school, Mr E. Newman, expressed on behalf of himself and the teachers their earnest thanks to all those who had so liberally subscribed towards the treat and prize funds.
