SUICIDE.

Dunedin, Dec. 20, G-eorge Henry Ashcroft, stationmaster, at Dunedin, shot himself this morning with a pistol. Deceased was one of the most popular men in the service and leaves a wife and three children. On the verger of St. Paul’s Cathedral opening the doors early this morning he found Ashcroft lying near the chancel with a six-barrelled revolver, one chamber of which was discharged, near him. He moaned “ Money, Money,” but was fast dying, and expired shortly after admission to the hospital; The jury returned the following verdict “ That the deceased died from the effects of a pistol shot fired by himself, and that there are circumstances which lead the jury to conclude that his mind for the time being was off the balance.”
