London, Dec. 10.
An agitation is on foot for a geueral strike of London gasmen and porters, Violence is feared, and the Metropolitan Companies are, in consequence, boarding and lodging blacklegs on their own premises,

The Gas Company has engaged 2000 men to take the place of those on strike, and as the latter are displaying a menacing attitude a large; number of police have been told off to protect the works.
The London Trades Unions repudiate the interference of Burns and other outside agitators. Sir H. A, Isaacs, Lord Mayor of London, will intervene in order to avert a coal famine. The strikers repudiate the idea that they intended to resort to violence.
The Manchester gasmen have signified their willingness to resume work, but the companies have filled their places and decline to re-engage. The coal porters will not strike, as their wages have been raised, They stipulate, however, that the masters boycott the metropolitan companies.
