THE EXHIBITION.

Dunedin-, Dec. 2. The exhibition to-day was very largely attended, the number present being estimated at 9081, of which 7603 paid for admission. Fifteen members of the Victorian Legislature readied town this evening, and were taken to the exhibition by the Executive Commissioners. All express themselves highly delighted with what they have so far seen, Dec. 3, In a letter to the Press, Mr Roberts says the entire cost of the exhibition building was £30,000, which is considerably under the estimate. To-day witnessed a great exodus of visitors, steamers and trains being crowded. Among the machinery exhibits have been placed a specimen of the improved railway carriage lately constructed in the Government shops, with balcony and small compartments ; also one of Scott’s Christchurch locomotives. About 70 visitors to Dunedin, including 15 members of the Victorian legislature, were guests of the Harbour Board t -day. on a trip to the heads. The mole was inspected and the Maori Kaik was visited. In proposing the toast of “ Success to the Harbor Board,” the Hon. G. Langridgeof Victoria said he had seen some of the largest exhibitions in the world, and ho thought the one at Dunedin was magnificent He wished the Centennial at Melbourne had been as well managed. The total attendance at the exhibition to-day was 4345, of which number 1082 paid c sh. His Excellency the Governor gave a ball to night at Government House.
