THE EXHIBITION.
Dunedin, Nov. 29. There was a good attendance at the Exhibition to. day and this evening—3slß paying for admission. Turnstiles are to be erected to give the number of season ticket holders and others who visit the exhibition. To morrow the first of the afternoon classical concerts takes place. Nothing further has been heard with reference to Sir F. Leighton’s “ Phryno,” and it is feared the picture will have to be sent Home. At the banquet last night the President, referring to the Parliamentary vote of £IO,OOO for housing and representing colonial industries, said the Commies oners had not been mean, for they had exceeded that sum by about £3OOO out of their own funds. The children of Leavitt Ilousa commenced a series of cooking demonstrations in the exhibition this afternoon, which i* intended to be continued every evening. The rush for accommodation in the hotels is now easing off somewhat, and next week there will be little or no difficulty in obtaining quarters. The ball given by the President in the concert hall to-night was attended by about 900 persons, and was a very brilliant affair. His Excellency the Governor and Lady Onslow were among the guests, Dec. 1. Carpenters and other workmen are a'jaia thick in the Exhibition, especially in iho main traverse and the Now South Wales court. In the former the French court is being got ready, but it will not be completed for a fortnight, in the latter a representation of the famous Jenonlau caves is to be set up. A number of exhibits are still being unpacked here. The paid admissions to the Exhibition on Saturday were 40G5, making a total since the opening of 24,541 persons. The concert in the evening was a great success. Notwithstanding the show, races, and exhibition, not a singh individual was locked up last night for drunkenness. SPORTING. DUNEDIN EXHIBITION MEETING.
