TEMUKA FLORAL AND HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

A general meeting of the above was held last evening in The Hall, Temuka, when there was a good attendance of members. The Rev. T. A. Hamilton was voted to the chair, and announced that the special business for the evening was the election of permanent officers of ib# Society and the adoption of ru es. The Rev, Mr Dickson, through Mr Rutland, expressed bis approval of the objects of the Society, and intira'iied that if it was established on an undenominational basis he would give a special pr'ze. The rules as drafted by the subcommittee were read, and, with slight alterations, adopted. It was recommended that the committee add to the show exhibi's of fancy needlework, elc. Mr Brown moved, aud it was curried—- “ That subscribers of two guineas be entitled to become life-members of the society.” Mr Gaze moved —“ That alterations of the rules may be made at any special meeting, or at any general meeting, due notice of such alteration to be given 14 clear days prior to such meeting.” Seconded by Mr J. Brown, and carried, It was moved and carried that Mr A. E. G. Rhodes, M.H.R., and the Hon. W. Rolleston be elected patrons of the society. The Rev. T. A. Hamilton was elected president of the society. Messrs J. Guild, E. Gotten, A. M. Clark, H, J. Gladstone, and J. T. M. Hayhurat were elected vice-presidents. On the motion of Mr Cathro, seconded by Mr Miles, Mr E. 0. Dann was unanimously elected secretary. Mr E. Gotten was unanimously elected treasurer. Mr J. Ashwell was elected auditor, at a remuneration of one guinea. The following gentlemen were elected a committee ; —Messrs Rutland, Saunders, B. Whitehead, G. Smith, J. Brown, G. Smith (Main Road), J. Velvin, J. Bennett, J. L, Flint, P. Wareing, J. Boulter, J. Hooper, and A. R. Allan. The meeting then terminated with a hearty vote of thanks to the chair.
