RIFLE MATCH.
A simultaneous rifle match between teams representing the Geraldine, Temuka, Timaru, Waimate, and Ashburton Bifles and Ashburton Guards took place en Thursday. The conditions were ten men a side, seven shots each at two, three, and fiye hundred yards, Wimbledon targets and scoring, no average allowed for absentees. Each team fired on its own range. It was arranged that the firing should take plaee at 5 a.m., and the Temuka men assembled at the butts at that hour for the purpose. A heavy dew had fallen during the night, and* the smoke after each discharge was so long in lifting that it was found impossible to finish before some of those present had to leave for 1 work, and the firing was postponed until later in the day.
