A Rival of N.Z. Flax.—The AgentGeneral has forwarded a letter and gpecimen of a, new species of sisal which is especially grown in the sterile soil of the Bahamas, where the Governor of the colony is doing all he can to foßter its cultivation. Sir J?. D. Bell fears it will develope into a formidable enemy of Now Zealand flax, aB the cost of the dressed fibre hardly amounts to £lO per ton. The specimen forwarded, however, which will be sent to Dunedin, is very rough indeed, fit apparently for coarse matting and cordage only.
