Fraser said there were 1000 acres in crop up there,, and that the road was required. It would not be expensive; a few shillings per chain would do it, There may be about half a mile of it to make.—The chairman said it was a work that . had bben asked for frequently and was required. He sugto call;-for tenders for it.—A resolulion'to that effect was carried. L. Price, asking to be placed on the rate roll instead of Messrs Kennaway Brothers. The request was complied with. OVEESEEB’S EEBOBT. Pie overseer reported. that contract No. 12*. clearing drain by Mr Wareing’s, and No. 11,, butting drain on Talbot’s Road, were completed and passed, for .payment. Contract No. 8, shingle repairs was almost finished, and contract No. 7, shingling Main South Road is being proceeded with. Coombs, asking for' Mrs Sarab Taylor’s name to be substituted on tbe rate roll for his.—Mrs Taylor’s consent to be obtained. From Mr C. Dierck, 1 enclosing an offer for supplying bluestono for level crossings if required. No stone required. The overseer’s report was read, and he was instructed to take steps to remove a tree that appeared to endanger the public. It was also decided to make footcrossings over the race at the Post Office and Anglican Church. BATE. The clerk reported that the necessary steps had been taken for striking the rate. On the proposition of Mr Mundell seconded by Mr White, a rate of Is the £, due in one sum on Nov, 26th, 1889, was struck, goese on EOADS. The overseer was instructed to give notice to those persons having gorso growing on the footpath or road to remove the same. DEPUTATIONS. Mr Butcher waited on the board, and asked to be permitted to take water from the rape for his garden.— The application was granted/ and he was; ndvised to try and make some amicable arrangement with Mr Morrison re getting .through the latter’s fence, . , ; - . Mr-B. d’Brieii waited on the beard re the rent due by him. , He stated that he Ba|d thrown up the section in May last/ and would not pay the rent beyond that time.—He was informed that ho could not play fast and loose with the board in dealing with public property. He had tendered for the lease of the section, and had got it. The board had gone to a good deal of trouble,'and he would = now have to stand by his. .contract. He was advised $o pay what-rent he considered he was entitled to.pay, and, then make his application to the. board, when nc doubt they would deal fairly with him mE BRIGADE. A letter, was read from the secretary of the Dunedin City Fire Bngadt stating that should the ; board be unable to purchase a second-hand firt engine he could procure them a new one from England at a reasonable price.—Received. From the Gore Borough Council offering to sell the board a No. 6 Merryweather fire engine, with three six-feet lengths of suction hose strainer and branch, also a hose reeJ capable of carrying 700 feet of canvas hose, or 200 feet leather hose; alse giving any trial of the engine at Gore The engine had been in use for three years. The reason for selling wa! that the council had obtained a high pressure water supply, and had nc further use for the engine. Mr Pearpoint also waited on the board, as chairman, of the committee appointed to take steps to form th<
brigade, and submitted several letters received by him re offers of engines, and matters connected with the formation of the brigade. After due. consideration it was de--1 cided; to accept the offer of the Gore Borough Council/ provided the trial of the engine proved satisfactory. The matter of engaging' an expert to test the engine was'left in the hands of the chairman to arrange. It was alsodecided to call a public meeting meeting for Tuesday evening next for forming the brigade, Ac. It was further decided to obtain quotations for hose, Ac., and the works committee were empowered I -to deal with them. ■ \ ii VALUATION BOLL. '> On the motion of Mr A. Sherratt j seconded by Mr Williams, it was decided to adopt 'the property tax valuation for the Geraldine Town District. t ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £7B 6s Id; were passed for payment. Mr W. NET RESULTS. 1 After’routine, the ChdirraarA stated that , the net proceeds from the sale of timber , was £46 13s 7d. THE LAWS FAEK. A letter was from the . Undersecretary, stating tbht as the lessee of the largo bush-park Wished to run cattle, etc., is it the Governor declined to ratify the lease, as the stock would destroy the ferns and undergrowth, and thus destroy the natural beauty ot the bush, for tbo preservation of. which it had beeu vested in the Geraldine Domain Board.—lt was decided to giye the,lessee (Mr Dunlop) notice to remove his stock and givo up possession of the park by December Ist next, tbe rent to be paid to October Ist only.—Mr Dunlop objected very strongly to having to give up possession, as ho had gone to considerable expense in repairing fences, obtaining a lease,, otc., duringthe nine months ho had had it, and hid got nothing out of it.—The board acknowledged the case to be rather hard, but pointed out that the P«rk was looted subject; to the oobjont of fho ,Governor being obtained, and Mr Dunlop took it at that risk.—Mr Dunlop also pointed out that owing to the board and others removing the fences tc get out the wood, etc., his cattle had got out and been impounded. He thought it hard to be called dpon to pay the poundage foes,— It was decided to deduct thefiesfrom the rent doe. It was decided td invite tenders for cutting fences round the small bush park.) the chairman was authorised to deal with the same. The sum of £55 was paid off the loan from the Town Board, and an account of 3s 31 passed for payment, The meeting then terminated.
