The schooner anchored in Denham Bay, and the men of the party at once went ashore and commenced the work of creeling temporary dwellings, wbares of wood, with nikau and toitoi. A large number of kauri logs, drifted from Mongonui, Whangaroa, and other localities along the northern coast of New Zealand are lying stranded in Denham Bay. The settlers on examining those, found that they were sound at heart, and intend sawing them up for building purposes. The principal wood found growing on the island is pohukatawa, which is practically worthless as building material. The flat on which the settlers are at present located is about SCO acres in ext nt, and near the centre is the only fresh water to be found on the island. The landing of passengers and cargo was completed on the 18th lost,, and the schooner left next morning for Auckland,
