A largely attended meeting of railway employes at Dunedin, on Saturday, condemned the Railway Employes Insurance Bill. A young man named Taylor, twenty years of age, was killed by the upsetting of a dray at Birchwood station, Southland. Mr Henry Sears, farmer, of Russell Elat, N.C., fell dead on Efiday evening while reaching to place a book on a shelf; heart disease is supposed to have been the cause. At Tahuna Park, Dunedin, on Saturday at the Hussars’ Sports, Alex. Cullen was thrown and had his leg broken, At Winslow on Eriday last one of the railway surfacemen, named Morris, met with a very serious accident while travelling along the line on a trolly. There was a strong wind blowing at the time, and the rope used for working the sail caught Morris and threw him off on to the line in front of the trolly, the wheels of which passed over his legs. The poor fellow suffered a compound fracture of the left leg below the knee, and a number.of minor injuries. It is feared that amputation will be necessary.
