CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS. At the Addington Yards on Wednesday the pens fer all’ classes of stock presented a marked improvement, both in number and quality; prices, in consequence, fell away a little, but were still considerably above the average. Yat Cattle —All the cattle pens were well filled, and the quality was of a very superior nature. Bidding throughout the sale was animated, and prices were nearly on a par with last week’s rates. Best beef made from 18s 6d to 21s per 1001 b, and inferior from 16s 6d to 18s. —Matson and Co. sold for the estate of the late Mr A. Grant, 5 steers at £5 10s. Store, Cattle—There was a fair demand for two and there-year-olds, a line of which fetched £2lßs 6d per head, but old sorts were neglected. Bat Sheep—Nearly double as many fat sheep yarded as at last week’s sale. Mutton of all classes was hardly as dear, which may be accounted for by the largeness of the entry. There was again a large number of shorn sheep to be seen in the pens. Brices fluctuated greatly. ’ Best sheep in most eases elicited good competition, notably a line of crossbred maiden ewes, which realised 21s per head. Best mutton made from Hd to 2d, and inferior from Ud to l|d.—Messrs C. Newton and Co. sold for ,Mr Postlethwaite, 56 crossbred ewes at from 16s to 16s 9d.—The N.Z. Xi. and M,A. Co. sold for Mr A. M. Clark, Lauriston Farm, 80 crossbred wethers at 19s 3d, and 38 crossbred ewes at 18s 3d.
Pigs—An extremely email entry of mostly inferior sorts. Perkers were unusually cheap, while the few haconers yarded were all of inferior quality, and consequently did not sell well.
