At the Invercargill Police Court yesterday, John Lewis was fined £l, and £1 6s costs for throwing stones on the roof of the Salvation Army meeting house at Rimu. A charge against the captain of the Invercargill branch of the Salvation Army, of obstructing traffic in the street, was, in the absence of a municipal by-law, dismissed. Murder and Suicide.— A shocking double crime was committed in Ampthill square, Hampstead road, London. A lady rat out of one of the houses in the square and was followed immediately by her husband who shot her with a pistol. Soon afterwards the man was apprehended by a constable* but after a struggle ha succeeded to pointing tne pistol at himself and fired. The husband and wife were promptly taken to a temperance hotel in the locality* where they both expired.
